A Raspberry Pi environmental monitoring system.
Environmental monitoring is an essential part of caring for our collections. By keeping track of the environment within the museum we can make better decisions about how to care for our objects and if problems do arise it should help us identifying them sooner.

The monitor consists of:
A Raspberry Pi (Zero WH)
An Enviro+ ‘HaT’ (Hardware attached on top)
A particulate matter sensor
A protective case for the Raspberry Pi
The Raspberry Pi, a small computer, is programmed to take readings from the sensors, it also powers the unit. The Enviro+ has sensors that take temperature, humidity, light, pressure, and noise readings. The particulate matter sensor measures how many microscopic particles are in the air, this is especially useful to keep track of car pollution as the museum is situated on the busy High Street. The case keeps the Raspberry Pi safe and sound!
opening times
We are open:
Tuesday, 1-5pm
Wednesday, 1-5pm
If you would like to see the museum open more often please consider volunteering!
In summer we close the museum if external temperatures reach 30c. We have a winter closure period (mid-December to early March) that allows us to undertake our annual deep clean!
Groups (8+ visitors) can visit outside of these hours. Drop us a line via our contact form to organise a group visit.
support us
We are an independant museum, this means we do not receive regular government (local or national) funding.
Donations from visitors and patrons help to ensure the museum remains free to enter. Donations also go towards keeping our collections safe, putting on new displays, running our events programme, and much more!
To make a donation visit our People's Fundraising page. (The link will open a new window)
